The world rugby 7s series is held annually and has been around since the 1999-2000 series. This will be the 21st series since its inauguration. It comprises of 15 core teams and one invited team. The sixteen teams are pooled into four pools of four teams each. The winners of each pool compete against each other for the gold, silver and bronze medals.

They have also won the trophy 3 times a record jointly held with the New Zealand team. With the series starting just a few months after the world cup, one can’t just ignore this team.


Fiji is the defending champion of the rugby 7s series. They can easily be described as experts in the series. They have managed to finish within the top 3 positions in the past 8 years. They always enter the series as potential winners and the 2020 series is no different.
