Rugby is a sport loved by many. It is played at club level and also international level with several world competitions available. In the United Kingdom, there are several rugby clubs that participate in local competitions in the country. Some of the most famous clubs in the UK include:

Bath Rugby Club

People commonly refer to the club as Bath. It plies its trade in the English Premiership. The professional rugby side has won the European Challenge Cup, the Heineken Cup, the Premiership Rugby Cup and also England’s domestic competition. The famous rugby club was founded in 1865 and has a home ground known as the Recreation Ground which has a capacity of 14,500.

Bristol Bears

The famous rugby club referred to as Bristol Bears is based in Bristol and they take part in the top division league called the Premiership Rugby. They are nicknamed ‘The Bears’, and the team club was established in 1888. They are currently captained by Steven Luatua, and they play their home games at Ashton Gate Stadium which holds about 27,000 fans.

Exeter Chiefs

Founded 141 years ago in 1871, the Exeter Rugby Club is a professional rugby club that plays in the Premiership Rugby. The team is based in Exeter, Devon and has their home ground there known as Sandy Park, which has a capacity of 12,921.

Gloucester Rugby

The list of famous clubs in the UK cannot be complete without including Gloucester. The team was founded in 1873 and is currently playing in the Premiership Rugby League where they finished 3rd in the 2018-19 season. They play home matches at the Kingsholm Stadium.


This famous rugby team plays in the English Premiership, and they are nicknamed ‘The Quins.’ Quins were founded in 1866 and are chaired by David Morgan. Their home ground is the Twickenham Stoop located in Twickenham.
